Heard a bang in the garage? Read this first
Safe to open?
A snapped spring sounds like a gunshot, and the door suddenly weighs as much as a motorcycle. Find your situation below before you touch the door or the opener.
Broken spring
Leave the door down.
A garage door with a broken spring weighs 150 to 250 pounds. Don’t lift it by hand and don’t press the opener; the motor can strip its gear or drop the door.
Cable off the drum
Unplug the opener.
A loose or snapped lift cable lets one side drop. Running the door now bends the track and the panels. Pull the plug, leave the car where it is and call.
Door off its track
Keep everyone clear.
A crooked door can fall out of the opening. Don’t push it back or prop it up. We clamp it, lower it, straighten the track and re-hang it.
Won’t close, light blinks
Check the sensors first.
Most of the time it’s the safety eyes by the floor. Wipe both lenses, make sure both little lights glow steady and nothing blocks the beam. Still stuck? Book the $79 visit.

“The spring went at 6:40 AM with both cars inside. They quoted $239 on the phone, came in the 10 to noon window and charged exactly that.”
